2024 was one of those years that’s got more than a few years’ worth of events – a lore dump kinda year. And on the surface of this all, across millions of devices, Glance folk the world over were in the know of all this action and more, straight from the lock screen: on phones, and just recently, on TVs!

Billions and billions and billions of impressions (or as we call them, glances) had engaged users tuning in every day, and made 2024 a YUUUGE year for those who glance. Interests varied, and key categories of politics, entertainment and gaming had impressive engagement world over, keeping audiences local and international hooked through the year. Upskilling was the name of the game, with users getting their lewks on, eyeliner in one hand, and their best cosplay of Masterchef on, spatula in the other.
As the world transitioned to the app-less ecosystem, the numbers rose like the stock graph of everybody’s biggest missed opportunity regret, Bitcoin. The high came during a specific spooky season, when the world was influxed with Halloween costumes that took the internet by storm. The weather forecast for all of October was glance storms: clocking in glances of 255 billion. In dolla dolla bills, that’s more than the net worth of the world’s second-largest billionaire!
But who needs money when you have the richness of news, general info, entertainment, and trends amirite???
The lock screen revA.I.lution made it to wayyy bigger screens as the year winded to a close in December: Smart TVs! In partnership with Airtel, Glance had a new horizontal avatar, infusing life to idle screens. Now, instead of a screensaver, folks can continue to glance at news, sports updates, and entertainment from every category they can name.
Hit pause, glance and glam up!
The pursuit of finding out which city tops in vibes amongst the New Yorks and Mumbais and Tokyos of the world is never going to have a consensus, but one city reigned supreme and head and shoulders above the rest when it came to glancing at a daily average.
The categories saw super sporty excitement top the list, with 252 billion glances. Crowd-favorite Entertainment category came in second at 146 billion glances with Travel & Lifestyle trailing at 3rd place with 99 billion glances.
Politics had a glow up year especially in India, which glanced through the general elections at 215 billion glances and 5 billion interactions.
Gaming on mobile devices is on the rise, just ask a certain somebody in Hyderabad, India, who raked up a collective 1400 hours gaming on Glance! Japan had the highest average game time at 23 mins, 31 secs for Wood Block Puzzle.

2024 was a big year for the screen gazers, with a whole bunch of super smash hits, but one movie had the audience mesmerised at the edge of their screens, and it was a movie Glance was a digital partner for: Stree 2, with an overwhelming 2.5 billion glances. Now that’s a big Stree-ak!
In a year that had the world tuning in to the Paris Olympics action and chess’ big come up with newly turned adult and grand master Gukesh Dommaraju winning the World Chess Championship, to absolutely nobody’s surprise, cricket still reigned supreme, with India’s big T20 World Cup win bolstering its position, with India’s top cricketer racking up 8.3 billion glances.
The scales have tilted as southern regional languages like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi trumped the Hindi tongue in 2024, by 121 billion glances to 71 billion. With a huge host of content available in various languages, the everyday average video watch time in India clocked up to 30 whole minutes.
Indonesian language stories had 124 billion glances, to Japanese stories’ 2.4 billion.
Glance is a certified polyglot!
Outside of staying read up on the news, Glance users in India got thrifty with skilling up in spaces like new recipes and make-up tutorials.
Indians also leveled up their financial know-how, with the most viral story being that of investment returns in Gold vs. Sensex. Talk about versatility.

Glance got a new U.S. stamp stamp on its visa, after Japan’s last year, with a launch in the star spangled banner’s land furthering the lock screen revolution to newer international markets.
This year saw key states swing the U.S. elections for president re-elect Donald Trump, with 312 electoral votes and 1.1 million glances. As the leading presidential candidates canvassed for top spot, politics as a category saw an upswing, with 38 million glances and 1.7 million interactions.
As the states turned red on results day, there were a top few that turned Glance red.
California was the reddest at 11.04 minutes of glancing every day, followed by Georgia at 10.17 and sweet North Carolina at 9.3.
Japan's capital, Tokyo, only came in second place this year, with new contenders entering the fray. Travel & lifestyle stories kamehameha'd food & health, although recipe video content had the most amount of viewership at 80,000 hours.

We’re just past our year-ender afters, and as we write down our resolutions for markets old, new, and emergent, we’re still gleeful about what 2024 had for us.
