Idle screens have long been static pushware wallpapers, but now users can customize them, interact with them and also put themselves into the TV wallpapers if they choose.

This next-generation technology also allows users to engage with the wallpapers to ‘know more’ about the images, landscapes, content etc. Users also turn-on a pro AI-feature (free of cost) which allows them to put themselves on TV wallpapers using GenAI. The pro-features are only opt-in (which is ‘off’ by default) needing user authentication using phone/email.

1. Glance’s AI TV tech is based on a new IP created together by Google & Glance  – which is offers interactive AI-powered content and commerce screensaver for Android TV operators.

It is off by default. The users who want to indulge in this can choose to authenticate via phone/email & initiate. Until the user picks up the remote to manually initiate their GenAI image moments, everything on their wallpaper is purely static ambient infotainment images about nature, sports, celebrities, lifestyle, scenic, travel etc. 
2. All modes are free of cost.  
3. Users who have turned on the Generative AI mode can turn it off anytime they choose right from the settings. Users can even turn off the entire Glance ambient mode anytime from TV settings (and revert to system default)

All global TV makers are introducing the next generation of AI advancements in content, search & infotainment on TVs (recently done by Google, Samsung, Sony, LG etc). DIRECTV also believes in bringing the latest advancements in TV AI tech to its users and allow them to experience a new world of interactive content on TVs. TV makers and TV providers can add new experiences as part of system updates, just like your phone gets new features after an update. Glance comes as a part of the system upgrade we recently made. Users can choose to turn off the Glance ambient mode anytime from TV settings (and revert to system default)

On DIRECTV Gemini devices, select Settings -> System -> Device Preferences -> Screensaver. Under this, users can choose to [Turn screensaver Off] or even set a different Screensaver (like Google’s Backdrop)

Availability depends on your TV brand, model, and region. Make sure your TV software is up to date. If your TV or provider supports Glance, it may appear automatically as an ambient / idle screen option in Settings.

In case you had switched it off, you can always get Glance back as the screensaver by selecting Settings -> System -> Device Preferences -> Screensaver -> Screensaver Type and selecting Glance AI from the options.
