Life at Glance: with Adriana Rivera

When did you join Glance? 

I joined Glance in May 2022. 

Can you tell us about your role at Glance, what do you manage and how your journey with the company began? 

I am the Managing Editor for Spanish-speaking regions, covering parts of the market in the United States, Mexico, and Colombia. Alongside my team of editors, we curate and prioritize news and content to ensure the best possible user experience on the devices where Glance has a presence. We started, as most do when launching in a new market, with extensive testing! Then, we went live on the devices of thousands of users, got to know each other better as a team, and collaborated closely. Since mid-2022, it has been a significant period of growth and learning, both personally and for the team. 

What were your first impressions of Glance, and how have you seen yourself grow since joining? 

Despite being based out of Mexico, a different time zone from the headquarters, I have always felt supported by my colleagues, who were there from day one to teach me how everything worked or connect with the Mexican team when needed. This multicultural environment and working across different time zones have strengthened my sense of autonomy, active listening, empathy, and curiosity. 

Can you share a personal story that highlights how Glance's programs or initiatives have aided your professional development? 

In 2023, our department organized a workshop in Bengaluru for editors from all over the world. It was an incredible opportunity to meet in person with colleagues I usually only spoke to over Teams, get to know the different departments at our headquarters, understand the challenges faced in other regions, speak with company leaders, strengthen bonds, collaborate more, and even form friendships. It was my first time taking such a long trip, and during that journey, I realized that while we may be on opposite sides of the world, we still share a lot in common, particularly in how we warmly welcome others. Plus, we all love good food and laughter! 

How have you grown professionally since joining the company, and how has the company supported your career development? 

One of the areas where I have grown the most over the past two years is in team management. Remote work brings an added challenge to team integration and collaboration, but I am fortunate to work with incredible professionals who are responsible, empathetic, and proactive. 

How does Glance's culture resonate with your personal values? 

I value the freedom to work independently and contribute my ideas, which aligns well with Glance’s values. While I enjoy autonomy, I also appreciate the importance of having supportive colleagues to collaborate with and seek guidance from—something I’ve found at Glance. 

What Glance value do you resonate with the most? 

The value I resonate with most at Glance is autonomy with responsibility. 

Describe the culture at Glance from your perspective. 

I believe Glance values a collaborative spirit and enjoying the work we do, and that really comes through in the results we achieve. 

What are you most proud of during your time at Glance?  

I’m proud of applying my skills in a fast-paced editorial operation, working with people from cultural backgrounds and references quite different from my own, in another language, and collaborating closely despite the time difference. 

What brings you joy and keeps you motivated? 

What brings me joy and keeps me motivated is knowing that users can access our content anytime, anywhere. The endless possibilities for our products excite me, driving our team to curate the best content for our users every day. 

What are your aspirations for the future, and how do you see your career evolving at Glance? 

I am particularly excited about expanding our market presence in the Spanish-speaking world and leading teams to innovate and deliver exceptional value to our users. 

How do you feel empowered to contribute to Glance's vision and success?  

The idea of creating interactions that spark joy and drive discovery aligns perfectly with my passion and experience in content production, curation, and user insights analysis. I am thrilled to help build products that not only meet users' needs but also exceed their expectations.
