Life at Glance: with Ricardo Gallegos

When did you join Glance?  

I joined Glance in May 2022. 

Can you tell us about your role at Glance, what do you manage and how your journey with the company began?  

As a Senior Sub Editor, I specialize in researching trends and curating news tailored for card creation in the US Spanish market. 

What were your first impressions of Glance, and how have you seen yourself grow since joining?  

My first impression was that Glance offered a game-changing product with incredible potential for growth and evolution across various countries. 

Can you share a personal story that highlights how Glance's programs or initiatives have aided your professional development?  

The collaborative spirit I experienced from my international peers during the initial weeks of training was instrumental in building a strong team culture and learning to efficiently utilize our work tools while addressing any challenges. 

How have you grown professionally since joining the company, and how has the company supported your career development?  

My growth has been profound; I have expanded my knowledge on diverse topics, from world politics to niche entertainment. The company has empowered me by granting me the freedom, time, and resources necessary to learn and develop alongside my team. 

How does Glance's culture resonate with your personal values?  

I am deeply committed to taking ownership and accountability in my work, as personal responsibility is key to achieving excellence. These values are vital in a journalism environment like this.

From my perspective, Glance fosters a dynamic culture driven by a shared commitment to innovation. The emphasis on ownership ensures that every team member is invested in their roles, using their contributions to fuel that innovation. 

In what ways has Glance supported your work-life balance?  
Glance has excelled in supporting my work-life balance through its flexible approach to remote work. This flexibility allows me to customize my work environment to meet my personal needs, significantly enhancing my productivity and overall well-being. 

What projects have you been involved in at Glance, and what impact did they have on the company and its customers?  

I played a pivotal role in the launch of Glance in Mexico and Colombia. Despite the challenges, this project was crucial in refining our strategy for international markets and enabled me to adapt quickly to the shift towards the US Spanish market. 

What are you most proud of during your time at Glance? 

I take pride in my development as a journalist and my enriched understanding of Colombian culture, as well as my improved insight into the US Spanish and Mexican markets. 

What has helped you in your journey here?  

The unwavering support from my colleagues in Mexico, especially my boss Adriana, has been invaluable. I also want to extend my gratitude to our designers in India for their assistance. 

What brings you joy and keeps you motivated?  

The ability to balance my work and personal life through remote opportunities brings me immense joy, alongside the reassurance that I can always rely on my colleagues for support. 

What are your aspirations for the future, and how do you see your career evolving at Glance? 

My aspirations are centered around enhancing my expertise in curating and analyzing trends across entertainment, sports, and lifestyle sectors. I aim to leverage these insights to drive impactful content strategies, pushing the Glance product in the United States and providing value for both the company and its customers by staying ahead of trends. 

 How do you feel empowered to contribute to Glance's vision and success?  

By staying attuned to emerging trends and audience preferences, I can tailor our content strategies to maximize the unique potential of this platform, thereby propelling the success of the lock screen as a powerful tool for connecting with users.
